IFAR – International Foundation for Art Research

The International Foundation for Art Research (IFAR) has launched a website compiling foreign cultural property laws and other information affecting the ethics and legality of transferring cultural property. The resource Art Law & Cultural Property also has a database of catalogues raisonnés for artists.

A interesting website to research legal issues:

BEWAREOF ART SCAMS!
A must read on the artbusiness.com site, this article spells it out in a nutshell:
ART & ARTIST CONTESTS, COMPETITIONS, SHOWS, AND MORE LEGITIMATE OFFERS VS DEAD ENDS, TIME WASTES & SCAMS

Highly recommended for any artist, but particularly emerging artists, to read the information on this site:

Warning: there are art scams operating on many networks, particularly nefarious (at the time this blog was originally written) was the World Art Foundation (WAF) scam that started on Facebook and Myspace, subsequently spread throughout other social networks, including Ning (once Ning stopped being a free service, the WAF page  on there disappeared not long thereafter).

Update about the WAF, 6 years later – apart from a remnant page on Facebook, there is a forgotten page on Blogger  HERE that hasn’t been updated since 2012. The Website ceased to exist years ago. Another WAF ‘ghost’ from the heydays of this scam is a YouTube video HERE that has in its descriptions links to the various WAF sites and pages that by now do not exist anymore. This is just to illustrate how wide-spread such a scam can be.
